Hadlow Stud’s Cathy Martin was voted Chairperson of the KZN Breeders Club at their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday.

She replaces outgoing Chair, Ted Hughes.

Cathy, who has a strong legal background, farms with her husband Jonathan in Mooi River.

The new Chairperson grew up on a farm just outside of Grahamstown and went to school at Kingswood College before graduating at Rhodes with a degree in law.

Hadlow Stud was originally bought as a quarantine farm for chickens but once the Martins moved to Mooi River and met all the racing people in the district they were hooked and their horse population grew quickly.

Cathy is on record as nominating former KZN Breeder Craig Ramsay and the late Dr Dave Mullins, their Vet in the early days of Hadlow, as her inspiration in a  tough game.

We wish Cathy well and will do a detailed catch-up interview with her soon.
