KZN Saturday – Venue Switch

Gold Circle makes an early call

Gold Circle has once again been forced to make an early decision regarding the scheduled race meeting at Scottsville on Saturday, 5 January 2019

More than 158mm of rain has fallen at the Pietermaritzburg track over the past four weeks and with more rain predicted for the weekend, the decision has been made to err on the side of caution and switch the meeting to the turf track at Greyville. Race distances and times remain as carded.

According to Gold Circle’s Racing Executive Raf Sheik, the average penetrometer reading at Scottsville at 11h00 on Friday was 31 (officially heavy) but there remain areas where the track is softer and inconsistent going is always a concern.

“With the forecast of more rain, it makes sense to us, in the best interests of all stakeholders,  to make an early call to switch the meeting to Greyville,” added Sheik.
