Day 2 Starts @ 12H00

Still time to find the next big thing

The first step to every owner’s dream of a Vodacom Durban July runner starts just over 48 hours prior to the big race when the hammer falls on the first of 289 lots at the 2019 renewal of the KZN Yearling Sale.

Day One:  Thursday 4 July at 12h00 : lot 1 – 158
Day Two:   Friday     5 July at 12h00 : lot 159 – 289

The annual sale with panoramic and breath-taking sea views, and the best value for money horses from some of our leading farms, takes pride of place in one of the great social weeks on our racing calendar.

The Vodacom Durban July is branded Africa’s Greatest Horseracing event – and there’s little arguing that tag as the holiday province comes alive in the build-up.

July hopefuls and KZN Yearling Sale graduates Eyes Wide Open and Magnificent Seven fight out the recent Gr2 WSB 1900

Besides graduates enjoying the golden carrot of qualifying for the 2020 KZN Yearling Sale Million, which is run on July day next year, the honour roll of the time honoured KZN Yearling Sale recently produced two 2019 July contenders in Gr2 WSB 1900 top two, dual Gr1 winner Eyes Wide Open, and the top-class Magnificent Seven.

There’s opportunity across the board – Eyes Wide Open, a son of Dynasty and a genuine sire prospect, cost R850k, while Magnificent Seven was acquired for R140k.

The honour roll includes the Gr1 winners Happy Valentine, Same Jurisdiction, Seal, and Wild One – and the most recent renewal has already produced a number of talented gallopers – including graded stakes winners African Warrior and Twilight Moon, as well as smart recent Dahlia Plate victor Hooves Of Troy.

Happy Valentine – Gr1 graduate

Besides a very rare opportunity to buy a well related half-brother (#132) to a US Gr1 winner, with Klawervlei Stud offering a Silvano half-brother to Gr1 Just A Game Stakes winner Antonoe at the sale, all of our top-class sires are represented.

Click on the image below for the Buyer’s Guide!

Among the sires gracing this year’s catalogue are recent KRA Fillies Guineas and Track & Ball Oaks winning producer Duke Of Marmalade, the ill-fated sire of champions Dynasty, Elusive Fort, Gimmethegreenlight, Ideal World, Oratorio, Pomodoro, Querari, July favourite sire Silvano, Twice Over, Var, Visionaire and What A Winter.

Global View – has his first draft at this sale

For those looking to take a serious value position, exciting sires represented by their first KZN Yearling Sales drafts include Dynasty’s star son Act Of War and Futura,  Coup De Grace, Flying The Flag, Galileo galloper Global View, former graduate of this sale – and a Triple Crown winner – in Louis The King, and the well-performed Willow Magic.

We have considered the merits of each lot on paper – now it’s up to your intuition, luck, passion and timing – call it what you like – to make it work.

Enjoy the read.
