Ross Fuller of Drakenstein Stud speaks highly of Gregorian Chant (Lot 162), a son of Trippi and Candy Singer, set to come under the hammer at Friday’s CTS Lanzerac Ready To Run Sale to be held at Durbanville.
Gregorian Chant’s full-brother Baritone has already won three of five starts and Fuller describes this second foal as “a very nice, well balanced horse that moves well.”
Magic Trick (Lot 45) is a filly by Trippi from Gr1 Empress Club Stakes winner Little Miss Magic and Fuller said: “She has a lovely shoulder and she’s a good mover, too, a little immature but a cracking little filly.”
Lot 130 is by Trippi from Torrential Rain. Not yet named, Fuller said this one is well grown, a strapping colt owned in partnership. “I’ve had him for about eight weeks, he’s doing really well.”
Also mentioned was an athletic daughter of Mambo In Seatle named Inga (Lot 33), to be sold by Drakenstein Stud as agent. Her unraced dam is a half-sister to five-time winner Captain Harry and this is her second foal.
There are some choice lots, too, in the Highlands Farm consignment, including Roman Emperor (Lot 94), a bay colt by Dynasty out of a half-sister to Gr1 winner Potala Palace.
He’s a first foal from the Whipper-mare Right and Ready and is reported to be showing some good work in pre-training, pretty impressive so far.
Greg Ennion has put a number of Highlands graduates through their paces over the last few weeks and has grown particularly fond of Lot 172, Great Value, a son of Elusive Fort and the National Assembly mare, Cressida: “He has a beautiful action and should make quick progress,” said Ennion.
Lot 13 is King Gordon (King’s Apostle), the third foal of Generous Gabriella, whose runner from two foals so far is Gorgeous Gaby, a decent two-time winner. “King Gordon is a robust horse, likeable,” Ennion assessed.
Duel Under The Sun (Lot 17 – Windrush), he said, is “big, black colt with a white blaze. He is quite an imposing horse, may take some time to come to hand but he has the looks and could develop into something nice.”
Ennion also noted Lot 119, Anton Ruskin (Antonius Pius). “He’s on the small side, but he has a nice action which always helps.”
Veronica Foulkes’ Normandy Stud consistently breeds quality thoroughbreds and this sale’s consignment includes two Windrush fillies who have made suitable impressions in pre-training.
Lot 71 is a daughter of the prolific Nordic Vine (x Northern Guest), whose stud record shows seven winners from eight individual runners including the 10-time winner Yer Maan and seven-time successful Ice Wine.
Lot 101 is from Russian Muse, another mare known for her high-class progeny.
One of her three previous visits to Windrush produced the 13-time wining Gr1 star Mother Russia, who needs absolutely no introduction.
And by virtue of her track record alone will ensure that her young bay full-sister will have plenty of bidders convening near the sales ring.
Normandy will sell six other lots as agent, including a pair of well-bred colts.
Lot 65 is Bishop’s Bounty, a son of Western Winter from Nacarat. He’s a full-brother to both Brutal Force and Red Ray and is considered by a few in the know to be the potential sales-topper; Lot 124 is an unnamed half-brother to champion fillies Ebony Flyer and Captain’s Lover by super stallion VAR.
Word has it that both are magnificent specimens – their pedigrees suggest as much!
The youthful James Armitage of Sandown Stud attempts to raise the bar with every new consignment and he’s as excited as can be with his farm’s graduates this year.
Included in Sandown’s impressive bunch is Omaha Tribe (Lot 68), by Ashaawes from Navajo Angel. He’s a half brother to the game Gr3 winner Tribal Dance with “the same shape as Tribal Dance and the same beautiful action on top of that.” James said this one stretches out superbly.
Lot 82 is Redwood Valley, by Ashaawes from Pine Forest. He is a “solid” half-brother to former Gr3 Graham Beck Stakes winner Francois Bernardus who was exported and voted Joint Champion Miler in Mauritius in 2014.
St Arnault (Lot 84) is a Windrush colt from Place Morny.
He’s a half-brother to four-time winner Reim, another exported to Mauritius and Armitage said: “Reim was a quality horse whose claim to fame was that he won the Gr3 Matchem Stakes in a faster time than the great Variety Club. To be able to mention the two in the same breath is an honour, we’re hoping St Arnault can set the tracks alight too.”
