Lateral Strikes!

Lateral

Lateral

Maine Chance Farms’ promising young first crop sire Lateral enjoyed a cracking double at Turffontein this past Saturday.

Lateral’s son Illuminati won the first race (a maiden juvenile plate over 1400m), while Lateral filly, Lemon Tea, landed the spoils in the second race (a maiden juvenile plate for fillies) to give the former champion a clean sweep. Both juveniles are trained by Weiho Marwing and well done to owners Mr and Mrs Kotze, who own both horses.

Illuminati, who hacked up to win by nearly four lengths, looks a nice type and he should go on to win his races for his connections. Out of the Fasliyev mare Inspired, Illuminati, bred by Maine Chance, was a bargain buy at the 2013 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale, where he cost just R50 000.

Lateral’s second winner on Saturday came in the form of Lemon Tea, who was bred by Dr Ian Heynes. The filly won a good race, scoring by 1.25 lengths over the testing Turffontein track.

Out of a Parade Leader half-sister to graded winners Naughty Prince and Heat of The Night, Lemon Tea cost just R45 000 at the 2013 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.

A champion at two and three, Lateral is a son of champion racehorse and leading sire Singspiel (a half-brother to Jet Master’s sire Rakeen). He has a small, but select group of 4 yearlings on offer at the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale:

Lot 46 is a filly out of a smart, stakes placed mare. A half-sister to four winners, this filly is from the same family as numerous stakes winners, including high-class international sprinter, Nocturnal Affair.

Lot 151 is a half-brother to three winners – including former Gr1 Champions Cup winner James Jaguar. The latter was a tremendous racehorse, who earned over R800 000 during his racing career.

Lot 360 is a half-sister to 3 winners. Her dam, by Al Mufti, is a sister to 2 stakes horses, and this is the family of smart filly Carey’s Qui.

Lot 518 is a half-brother to 5 winners overseas, including a horse who won ten in North America. This is a magnificent family whose members include outstanding miler Bahri, champion filly Ajina, and multiple Gr1 winner and sire, Quality Road – to mention but a few.
