Oratorio’s Flying Carlita

Stakes winner for Avontuur's pride

The Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship at Scottsville in May could be on the radar for the talented Oratorio filly Carlita, who registered her first stakes success with a facile victory in the R150 000 Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery at Fairview on Friday.

Avontuur’s proven sire with international group race perfromance, Oratorio is having a boom season with his second local crop setting the tracks alight nationwide. His daughter Carlita looks very decent!

Having her first run at 1200m, and with two wins and a solid runner-up credit to the Australian-bred Traces in the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes at Kenilworth on Met day, Carlita looked particularly hard to oppose in the eight-horse field.

Aldo Domeyer, who was doing the riding honours for his Stepmother Ashley Fortune and the Greeffs, rode a confident race on the Piemonte Stud bred youngster.

Relaxed a few lengths off the pace set by Seattle Empress, Carlita tightened up on the outside and asserted herself at the 200m marker to win in good style.

She beat the Pathfork maiden Madame Speaker by 2 lengths in a time of 68,82 secs, with Potala Palace debut winner Watsonia back in third.

The Piemonte Stud-bred Carlita has now won three races from four starts for stakes of R214 375.

A bargain buy off the KZN Yearling Sale for R35 000, she is by the fast ascending Oratorio (Danehill) out of Auburn Annio (Point Given).

Oratorio has 15 lots on the CTS April Yearling Sale and a further 22 lots on the BSA National Yearling Sale. They should be in demand.

A sire imported to produce classic winners, and Met and July prospects, Oratorio’s 2yo’s have proven the cherry on top of expectations.
