No Holiday For Madonna

Snaith can trouble local hardknocker

Justin Snaith sends the Dynasty filly Madonna to Port Elizabeth today to contest the Listed East Cape Oaks. The step is part of a bigger plan to run her in the Gr1 Woolavington 2000 during the SA Champions Season.

It will be Madonna’s acid test and she will have plenty in her favour although  jockey Aldo Domeyer will not ride as he was stood down after Tuesday’s Kenilworth accident. While she can’t beat the local star Just Chaos at the weights, she has her seventh run and is improving all the time. She showed a decent turn of foot to easily defeat Duchess Of Bourbon at Kenilworth last time and must be a major contender for top honours.

The highest rated filly in the race, Sharon Kotzen’s Just Chaos won three on the trot at home late last year. She was considered good enough to travel to the Cape and Gauteng to contest the respective Fillies Guineas in those regions. That was a brave plan that failed to produce – and then she was thrown into the East Cape Guineas against the boys at her return run. If her spirit hasn’t been shattered, she could bounce back to her best and run this lot down.

Glen Kotzen travels from his Paarl home base with July winner Big City Life’s Oratorio half-sister Snapscan. The one-time winner should enjoy the extra test of distance.

Epic Storm relocated from the Bass-Robinson yard after failing to win a race in the Cape and won her first start here in February. She appeared to be best at 2000m early on and could surprise.

Yvette Bremner – My Miracle is consistent

Yvette Bremner’s My Miracle enjoys a 2kg turnaround at the weights with Jaleika who beat her 3,75 lengths last time. While that may not be enough to turn the tables, she has won over the 2000m and has proven a model of consistency.

The beautifully bred Solemn Promise has her first run in the Eastern Cape on transfer from Gauteng. The plan is obviously to find her some black after she only managed a maiden score up North.

Alan Greeff’s improving Silvano filly Jaleika has adjusted well to the Eastern Cape and has won two of her last three starts since shedding her maiden certificate on the polytrack. She caught the eye at her best performance to date when beating My Miracle with ease last time. She tries the 2000m for the first time and should get the trip with ease.

Geoff Woodruff – Fly Thought arrived yesterday

Geoff Woodruff raider Fly Thought only arrived in Port Elizabeth yesterday evening after the long road trip from Gauteng. The daughter of Philanthropist won her maiden over 1800m at Turffontein at her fourth start. She has shown little in her subsequent three starts.

Off a rating of 57, and after three ordinary runs since winning her maiden, Boldness looks hopelessly outclassed in this field.

Just Call Me Angel is a one-time winning daughter of Judpot who has an enormous task at the weights with her official rating of 56. She has shown nothing in her recent starts to suggest that she will have any chance here.

Madonna and Just Chaos look the two to fight this out. There shouldn’t be much in it.
