Rivarine Weaves The Magic

Full sister Delta Queen on Cape Premier Yearling Sale

The smart Var gelding Rivarine came out fresh and fighting after a 44 week break to cut down his opposition late and win the R150 000 Listed Golden Loom Handicap at Turffontein on Saturday.

His evergreen supersire Var, who arrived at stud in 2005, has enjoyed another terrific season and his 5yo gelded son gave the Azzie team some consolation after the dismal showing of defending champion Hat Puntano in the Charity Mile.

It was helter skelter from the 1000m start with the superfast filly Kissable showing the way ahead of Effortless Reward and Isphan, with Rivarine relaxed some six lengths off the action.

At the 300m Rivarine commenced his challenge and demonstrated his class to gain a half length victory in a time of 56 secs flat.

Captain’s Girl held on for second ahead of Isphan, with the tote favourite Rebel’s Champ missing the Place Accumulator to run into fourth.

The dual Gr1 placed Rivarine has now won 6 races with 6 places from 20 starts for stakes of R863 125.

A R600 000 Cape Premier Yearling Sale Book 1 graduate, Rivarine was bred in partnership by Avontuur Stud and Mr & Mrs Cedric Amm.

The Amms raced the outstanding J&B Met winning River Jetez, a versatile daughter of Jet Master who won 11 races from 1400m to 2400m.

A full sister to Rivarine – nicely named Delta Queen – will be up for grabs on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale in January 2019. Watch this space!
