Ascot Stud’s Gone West stallion Sail From Seattle has established himself early as a serious prospect for the future and he enjoyed the distinction of siring the first three home in Friday’s R150 000 Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes. It was the second week running that a stallion had achieved the feat after Var’s daughters grabbed the trifecta honours in the Listed Milkwood Stakes a week earlier.

Sail From Seattle is churning out the winners all over the country and it was no surprise to see him with five of the thirteen runners in a race where the only two time winner, Yvette Bremner’s Priceless Sail, went off a weak 4 to 1 favourite.

Jockey Sherman Brown made a rare trip to the Eastern Cape to replace S’manga Khumalo on his rides for the day and he had no hesitation in taking the free striding Bremner favourite to a comfortable lead.

Inside the 300m the pair still looked to be going very strongly but Charles Ndhlovu had other ideas for punters and he produced Alan Greeff’s Dancing Natasha with a powerful burst from some lengths off.

The 14 to 1 Dancing Natasha went past Priceless Sail (who didn’t appear to be stopping) and stayed on the better to win by a half length in a time of 84,95 secs.

The rest were well beaten, with Greeff’s other runner, Artic Sails, 2,75 lengths further back in third while Hollywood Sunset stayed on for a one paced fourth.

Dancing Natasha was bred by Highlands and is a daughter of Sail From Seattle out of the Coronado’s Quest mare Destination Mars, who won six races.

The winner cost R180 000 on the National Yearling Sale and took her earnings close to that figure as she clocked up R172 575.

She has won two races with 5 places from 9 starts.
