Family Race Within A Race

Older sister takes on her younger brother

It is not often that we have a well-performed sister taking on her progressive younger full-brother in a feature field of just nine runners.

Older sister – Sabina’s Dynasty

But that’s the family boat race that we are presented with in today’s Listed Michaelmas Handicap where the 5yo Gr2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes winner Sabina’s Dynasty takes on her 4yo full-brother American Landing.

Both were bred by well known Attorney Mike De Broglio and both were acquired for different interests off the De Broglio dispersal on the 2017 BSA August Kenilworth Sale.

The then unraced American Landing, who subsequently won the East Cape Derby, was the highest priced lot at that sale when acquired for the Sherrell family for R1,6 million.

In the same ring, Sabina’s Dynasty was astutely purchased as a maiden for R170 000. She now races for Messrs Mandelstam, Rabinowitz, Peter and Advocate Manny Witz.

Sabina Park – top class daughter of Sportsworld

They are by multiple champion Dynasty (Fort Wood) out of the versatile five-time winner Sabina Park (Sportsworld), who won the SA Oaks in 2004. The latter was bought for R55 000 by Mike De Broglio off Varsfontein’s 2002 National Yearling Sales draft.

The filly out of Batimamselle, was De Broglio’s first horse and she famously also produced dual Summer Cup winner, Master Sabina.
