Fairview: Switch To Poly

Punters should tread with caution as upsets look likely

Yoshie

Yoshie is top class – but drawn in the bush

As a result of continuous rain in the region, today’s Fairview meeting has been switched from the turf to the polytrack. With the surface change, fifteen scratchings on the card and jockey Greg Cheyne not riding, upset results are a serious possibility.

Cheyne has been riding with great consistency and regularly boots home two or three winners a meeting for trainer Alan Greeff.

He was scheduled to pilot the fancied topweight Yoshie in the feature, the R150 000 Listed Milkwood Stakes, and will now be replaced by crack heavyweight, Wayne Agrella.

Yoshie’s 13 draw on the turf straight now becomes a serious liability on the polytrack and Agrella will have to be at the top of his game, on a filly who has a mind of her own.

The former Brett Crawford runner House Of Lorraine has looked dangerous in two runs in PE and has her first taste of the polytrack. From a form yard, with a good draw and a galloping 52kgs on her back, she may be worth including.

Renate du Plessis’ classy and versatile Lielums is a powerful daughter of National Emblem and comes strongly into the reckoning. She travels a bit – she ran just over 5 lengths behind Pure Power in the Listed Olympic Duel Stakes last Saturday down at Kenilworth – so gets around! But she will not lack for fitness.

The eight race programme sees the bipot commencing  in the first race, which is off at 12h25.
