Centuries For Striker & Sean

Jackodore wins the Listed Nkosazana Stakes

Piere Strydom endured a rather shaky start to his Tuesday at the Vaal, but his commitment paid off with Jackodore giving him an armchair ride to win the R150 000 Listed Nkosazana Stakes in style. She certainly loves the sand and ran her opposition off their feet.

Strydom and Tarry, one of the most deadliest combinations in the game, clocked up their respective century of winners for the season with this victory. The winner Jackodore had her own say with her earnings climbing over the R1 million mark.

The day looked to be going pear shaped after Strydom arrived late on course, had a horse break down and injured his shin,  having  three stitches inserted. But the model professional would  hear nothing of crying off home, despite grimacing from the pain and he landed up banking  three nice winning commissions as the sun set over Vereeniging.

Always prominent, Jackodore ran much the same kind of ‘run them ragged’ race that Tommy Gun had performed with such sparkle a half hour earlier. With Strydom sitting as still as a mouse and just pushing gently with the arms, Jackodore ran through the 300m marker and then away from the chasing but well beaten Negev. The others didn’t matter much.

Jackodore showed that her turf run five days earlier was not her form, and she finished her race strongly to win by 4 lengths in a time of 91,67 secs. This was her third sand win in her last four starts. Sean Tarry and owner Chris Van Niekerk have had plenty of fun and pleasure from the mare who took her win tally to 9 races with 12 places from 28 starts and took her earnings to R1 052 225.

Jackodore was bred by The Alchemy and is from Toreador out of the one time winning Qui Danzig mare, I’m Alright Jack. She was bought for a shrewd R95 000 at the old Grandwest Sale , now the March Yearling Sale. The sale has been a happy hunting ground for Tarry with Mythical Flight and Ethereal Lady other good buys.
