Gold Cup shot?

Tara Laing-trained Crown Of Gold deserves a Gold Cup chance

Crown Of Gold stays all day

C’mon Tara give this stayer a bash at the Gr1 Gold Cup on Super Saturday. When the Silvano gelding Crown Of Gold doddled in to win Friday’s R150 000 Listed Port Elizabeth Gold Cup run over 3600m at Fairview for the second year running, he proved again that he has absolutely no stamina limitations and loves the long road.

Entries for the Gr1 R1,25 million Gold Cup closed on 4 July, but supplementary entries will be accepted until this Friday.

Only 31 entries were received, including the likes of Louis The King who won’t be staying in Durban for that, after Saturday’s July.

Yvette Bremner’s Blaze Of Fire is the only PE entry for the Gold Cup to date.

It surely makes sense to take a chance with the Tara Laing-trained Crown Of Gold. He won Friday’s marathon on soft ground too, so he could probably go 7200m!

Crown Of Gold first won South Africa’s longest race when still in the care of Joey Ramsden in 2013 and while he bumped what was largely a tired looking bunch of locals on Friday, he won full of running and , like most Silvano’s, has hit his peak at 5.

He beat a 7yo and a 10yo former winner of the same race, into the places.

Raymond Danielson jumped off afterwards and said that he was a lovely horse to ride.

After Rum And Raisin had made the pace, Danielson produced Crown Of Gold a long way from home and he simply ran away from them to win by 7,50 lengths in a time of 244,97 secs.

He was originally trained by Joey Ramsden .

Joey has had tremendous success with the progeny of Crown Of Gold’s dam, the Australian bred Palace Music mare, Palace Bride. And she has been nothing short of a true star, producing stakes winning progeny from 1200m to 3600m.

He trained all of Silver Mist (Western Winter), Shades Of Indigo (Indigo Magic) and Crown Of Gold.

Palace Bride(AUS) also produced the promising Mike Bass trained Ze Kaiser, who is a full brother to Crown Of Gold, and is stakes placed, although off form at this time.

The winner was bred by Midlands Equine and cost R225 000 on the National Yearling Sale.

Crown Of Gold is now a winner of 6 races with 10 places from 31 starts for stakes of R551 160.
