Cape Doctor’s Orders

Bass-Robinson's powerful What A Winter trio

The R150 000 Listed Southeaster Sprint brings the curtain down on the 2019 feature race programme in the Cape today.

Twelve  mixed bag speedsters line up in the 1100m handicap.

After her thrilling feature win at Fairview yesterday, Candice Bass-Robinson will be keen to end the year on a high and has a decent three – way What A Winter coupling headed by the SP top-rated Fabian.  The Listed Ibhayi Stakes winner surprised at 33-1 last time when beating Elusive Trader over the course and distance.

Greg Ennion’s Elusive Trader looks way better than a two-time winner and after his disappointing Merchants run, he ran on well last time.

What A Winner and the progressive looking Merchants winner Russet Air are the balance of the Bass-Robinson attack. They are both capable of a top four finish and the turn of foot shown by Russet Air last time suggests he still has plenty to come.

Green Jacket was slightly disappointing behind his class stablemate Nexus last time but reverts back to the sprints and Richard Fourie, who produced a 1200m win at his penultimate jump, will be keen to up the 4yo’s game.

His stablemate Frank Lloyd Wright ran a poor race finishing 6,50 lengths back in the Merchants.

The stakes winning Pleasedtomeetyou carries joint topweight and showed up well late to run a creditable third just under two lengths off Russet Air in the Merchants. He is 2kgs better off with the Bass-Robinson runner and can go close.

Brett Crawford’s Bwana gets the blinkers removed after showing plenty of space but fading out in the Merchants. He will need to improve.

Anton Marcus partners with his nephew Adam with the 5yo Billy Silver, who needed his last start after a break. While he is off his dazzling early form, he could surprise.

Ready Steady Go ran a cracker when beaten 1,50 lengths by Russet Air in the Merchants. He comes in 1,5kgs better off here but needs to confirm the form over the shorter trip.

The Stratum filly Mushi Sterek stayed on well for a three quarter length second to Casual Diamond in the Listed Laisserfaire Stakes. She will strip fitter and could be dangerous.Durty Nelly looks held by Green Jacket on her penultimate run and could find this quite tough.

It’s a handicap and there are many with chances.

Fabian won well last time, but Pleasedtomeetyou and Russet Air are both talented sorts who could assert themselves.
