The Snaith’s magnificent seven winners at Port Elizabeth on Sunday 19 May has outlined the vulnerability of horseracing’s history books and record keeping. Multiple champion jockey Garth Puller rode seven winners on an afternoon at Kenilworth some 33 years ago.

Puller, who rode his final winner at his very last race meeting on 27 December 2005, now trains successfully for his own account out of Clairwood in KwaZulu Natal. The man who turns 62 on 3 September crowned a glittering career by winning the J&B Met for trainer Sean Tarry with the outsider Alastor in his final year.

On 27 September 1980 Puller rode his own magnificent 7 at Kenilworth. There are some familiar names in the results of that record breaking below that should evoke fond memories amongst our older racegoers.
