Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings – 5 April 2015

Able Friend Catapults To The Top

Longines2The Longines Worlds Best Racehorse Rankings are for 3yos and upwards which raced between 1 January and 5 April 2015. The latest rankings were published on 9 April 2015.

After continuing to impress in March, ABLE FRIEND (AUS) [125] joins SHARED BELIEF (USA) [125] atop the second edition of the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2015.

Hong Kong star Able Friend‘s victory in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (Gr1) is the effort that vaulted him to the top of the rankings. The gelding has won his last five starts, including additional Group 1 scores in the Longines Hong Kong Mile and Stewards’ Cup. On 7 April, he added the Chairman’s Trophy (Gr2) to his list of laurels.

Earlier this year, Shared Belief took both the Santa Anita Handicap (Gr1) and the San Antonio Invitational (Gr2) in dominant fashion. In the San Antonio, he defeated America’s 2014 Horse of the Year California Chrome (USA) [121].

SOLOW (GB) [124] is now ranked third off of his impressive victory in the Dubai Turf sponsored By DP World (Gr1) on the Dubai World Cup undercard at the end of March. It was the 5-year-old gelding’s first attempt at a Group 1 race, and he passed the test with flying colours, leaving The Grey Gatsby to check-in second 4 ¼ lengths behind him.

Sprinter BRAZEN BEAU (AUS) [121] is the highest-rated 3-year-old in the rankings after his victory in the Lexus Newmarket Handicap (Gr1), which featured a field including the likes of Terravista, Chautauqua and LANKAN RUPEE (AUS) [123].

Other newcomers to the top of the rankings include DOLNIYA (FR) [121], PRINCE BISHOP (IRE) [121] and FLINTSHIRE (GB) [121], after they all put in notable performances in Dubai. Dolniya took on males and defeated them in the Dubai Sheema Classic presented by Longines (Gr1), which she won over Flintshire. Meanwhile, Prince Bishop beat California Chrome in the Dubai World Cup (Gr1).

Meanwhile in Japan, GOLD SHIP (JPN) [120] put in a strong effort to take the Hanshin Daishoten (Gr2) for the third time.

Looking forward, well-regarded 3-year-olds DORTMUND (USA) [120], MUBTAAHIJ (IRE) [119] and AMERICAN PHAROAH (USA) [118] all appear to be headed for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Gr1) after their exploits this spring.

The top ten Longines World’s Best racehorses are listed below, but it is worth clicking through to the complete rankings to see South Africa’s Futura jointly ranked 15 on a rating of 119, alongside Mike de Kock’s Kentucky Derby hopeful, Mubtaahij.
