Kerry Jack Bloodstock have been appointed to manage the career of the first South African Triple Crown winner since Horse Chestnut and the only Triple Crown winner at stud.
Louis The King – star on the track
Hugely versatile, Louis The King won six of his seven starts as a three year old, from 1400m to 2400m, including the illustrious Triple Crown comprising of the Gr2 Gauteng Guineas (won by over 5 lengths), the Gr1 SA Classic and the Gr1 SA Derby.
Winning the Triple Crown is rare as a horse must be the best of his generation at 1600m to 2450m and few horses have that range, plus they must be tough and consistent to remain at peak form over an extended period.
Not only did he achieve this, but at the end of his three-year-old career he ran 3rd in the G1 Daily News, beaten just over a length by subsequent Champion & Horse of the Year, Legislate.
Then, at four, ‘Louis’ truly crowned his career when winning the Gr1 Sansui Summer Cup.
A few months later he finished second to Futura, in the Gr1 Queen’s Plate, beaten only 0.75 lengths. His racing career was subsequently cut short due to injury.
“Louis” is by Black Minnaloushe out of Pamushana (by Rich Man’s Gold), he stands 16.1 hands and has an exceptionally laid back temperament.
His sire, Black Minnaloushe (by world class sire and sire of sires, Storm Cat) has produced G1 winners around the globe.
Both his dam sire and grandam sire are top broodmare sires, Rich Man’s Gold being the broodmare sire of G1 winners ATHINA and WAGNER, while National Emblem is the broodmare sire of recent impressive G1 Horse Chestnut S winner LEGAL EAGLE as well as SEVENTH PLAIN.

Louis the King will stand at Terry and Annabel Andrews’ Sorrento Stud in Agter-Paarl, Western Cape, and shares are available at R35 000 each.
His service fee will be set at R10 000 (R2000 nomination, R8000 live foal) – exceptional value for a horse of his racing ability.
Champion sires Jet Master, Captain Al and Dynasty are all well performed locally bred racehorses who stood their first seasons at stud at relatively low fees.
Jet Master and Dynasty stood at R12 000 while Captain Al’s service fee was a mere R4 000 at the start of his stud career!
