The Cape juvenile features continued the trend of disappointingly small fields at Kenilworth on Sunday with Justin Snaith saddling Captain Al’s daughter Red Disa to a facile win in the R135 000 Listed Irridescence Stakes. MJ Byleveld replaced the injured Richard Fourie and enjoyed an armchair ride in the 1500m feature.

Red Disa had run a nice, albeit well beaten, second to Hot Affair in the Gr3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery and she disputed favouritism with Greg Ennion’s two time winner, In Limine.

Red Disa eventually started in the red and obviously relished the extra ground.

The race was run on a typical Cape winter afternoon, on going classed officially as soft and Karl Neisius took In Limine to the front from the jump as she led Red Disa and Paradise Horse, with the maiden Shingle Beach back in third.

In Limine was full of running as they turned into the short winter course straight but after looking to the outside for a split second, Byleveld switched Red Disa in and she quickly made up the ground to sweep past and win going away by 2,25 lengths in a time of 96.23 secs.

In Limine went on a bit one paced in second with Stan Elley’s Shingle Beach hanging on for third.

The winner’s owners will gladly grab the black type with both hands but it is difficult to assess how strong this form will turn out to be in the medium term.

The winner is a scopy, handsome filly and really should train on.

Red Disa was bred by Drakenstein Stud and is by Captain Al out of the once winning Elliodor mare Zeigler, who won at 1800m.

She was a R700 000 Cape Premier Yearling Sale Book 1 purchase and races in the interests of Anyasec (Pty) Ltd and Miss Caroline Rupert.

She is now a winner of 2 of her 3 races with 1 place and R158 750 in earnings.

Being out of an Elliodor mare she could stay on in time..
