A Champion Day!

Sporting Post Mailbag - email [email protected] to have your say

I would like to congratulate the organizers of the Gr2 Peermont Emperors Palace Charity mile run at the big “T” this last Saturday writes Graham Martin of Witbank in the SP Mailbag.

All the Charities received money and a great day was had by all.

I would like to extend a special word of congratulations to the Handicapper of the November Handicap! New Predator was the right horse and he won a good race. This was a form win,and so were the horses that were placed behind him.

Not in the pic, but New Predator chased Kangaroo Jack home in the Spring Challenge

This kind of result can only benefit horseracing and enhance the Sport Of Kings!

I was convinced that after New Predator ran 3rd behind Kangaroo Jack (113) that he would be handicapped out of existence but I was pleasantly surprised to see that his merit rating stayed the same –  which is right.

Harsh or unfair penalties produce wrong results and this cannot be good for horseracing.

Blanket penalties for horses that win certain types of races are  also unfair.

Whether the horse wins by a short head , a neck or 5 lengths  the penalty stays the same. This cannot be right, surely?

The proven theory that 1kg is equal to one length always has been and always will be a fact!

This was evident when New Predator won the November Handicap last Saturday.

A special word of thanks to all the people involved in horseracing and who keep the sport going!

There are a lot of people behind the scenes who we never see and who tirelessly. Thank you!
