July Fancy Majestic Mambo For Dubai

Big race will be SA farewell for exciting colt

Paul Peter’s exciting Gr1 Daily News 2000 runner-up Majestic Mambo will be sporting the renowned black and scarlet silks of leading SA owners and breeders Wilgerbosdrift Stud when he steps out on the hallowed Greyville turf in the Vodacom Durban July next Saturday.

Majestic Mambo – headed for Dubai

The son of Mambo In Seattle will be having his last start in South Africa when he takes on seventeen rivals from a wide draw in the 2200m R4,25 million contest. He is due to transfer to Mike de Kock for export and will next be seen in action in the Dubai World Cup Carnival in 2019.

Mary Slack’s Wilgerbosdrift Stud have bought a share and will race the stakes winning colt in partnership with the existing owners, Hyperpaint Syndicate.

Jehan Malherbe – ‘Dubai will suit him’

Form Bloodstock’s Jehan Malherbe told the Sporting Post that Majestic Mambo looked an ideal sort for Dubai, where they race off a true pace.

“He is sure to improve as a 4 and 5yo and he stays well. He is the ideal horse for Dubai and there are no other long-term plans for him right now. I think the owners will have plenty of fun racing him there,” said the veteran leading Bloodstock Consultant.

A winner of 3 of his 7 starts to date, Majestic Mambo was unsold off the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, but subsequently acquired by the astute Paul Peter for a bargain R40 000 off the Lanzerac Ready To Run Sale.

He has earned over R600 000 in stakes.

Bred by Moutonshoek, Majestic Mambo is a son of Mambo In Seattle (Kingmambo) out of the one-time winning Regal Classic (Al Mufti). The dam won at 2400m. He is bred on the same cross as graded stakes winners Desert Rhythm and Fortune Fella. as well as the ill-fated Listed Michaelmas Handicap winner Mr O’Neill.

Trainer Paul Peter said that he was sad to see his star leave but was proud to have been part of the colt’s foundation phase.

“He has been a handful but he has settled down beautifully and has massive upward potential. We will be following him closely!”said Paul, who added that the transaction represented a great career opportunity for Majestic Mambo’s Groom Simbonile ‘Storm’Ndabangaya, who would stay with his favourite horse.

“Simbonile has been an integral cog in the Majestic Mambo success story. He has tended to him and ridden him every day. He will get the opportunity of a lifetime to go to Dubai and experience the challenges there with Mike de Kock. I am so thrilled that everybody has been so accommodating and Simbonile will prove his worth in time, believe me,”said Paul.
