In the second day of Royal Ascot 2014, South Africa is well represented yet again.

Mary Slack, doyenne of our local owning and breeding ranks, arrived in style by horse drawn carriage as part of the Royal entourage.

But there are two South African ladies in the limelight today as another of our breeding personalities, Dr Marianne Thomson is represented in the day’s feature, the Gr1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at 4:45pm.

The 6yo Zambucca (Lundy’s Liability – Jazz Champion) produced by Dr Marianne Thomson’s Ambiance Stud, will best be remembered by South African fans for his win over Astro News in the 2012 Gr2 Victory Moon Stakes.

Zambucca-gr2-victory-moon-stakes-t121116-1Zambucca is owned by Mr Hamad M Kafoor Al Mehairi and currently conditioned by Miss Gay Kelleway.  He has the services of Pat Cosgrave in the saddle and will face the starter at 4:45 South African time for the 1 mile 2 furlong Gr1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes and takes on the likes of Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber’s The Fugue, Breeders’ Cup heroine Dank, and 2013 Arc victress Treve.

A full copy of the day’s card can be found at the Racing Post.  Make sure you don’t miss a single minute.  Live streaming of today’s action can be accessed via the Dubai Racing ChannelFilmon’s HRTV channel or Channel 4 feed and RacingUK offers a subscription service available here.
