Shaken Sandile Suffers Concussion

Shocking fall in Gr3 Politician Stakes

While he has had his fair share of close shaves and downright bad luck in his brief career, jockey Sandile Mbhele will be happy to have come out of a dramatic fall in the Gr3 Politician Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday in one piece – even though he lost out on what would have been a personal first Met ride later in the day.

The official Stipes report states that at the 400m in the sixth race, Sandile’s mount My Bestie fell and dislodged the young rider.

Juan Carlos (Grant Behr) , who was racing behind My Bestie had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid the fallen horse and rider. An Inquiry was opened to establish the circumstances that led to this incident.

Sandile, who also lost out on his Gr1 Cape Flying Championship engagement on Kasimir, was rushed to Vincent Pallotti Hospital.

In a brief report, the Sporting Post is informed that he is doing a lot better this evening and is believed to have suffered from concussion.

He is currently undergoing a CT scan.

Further good news is that My Bestie appears to be none the worse for wear.
