Turkey Shoot? David Livingstone (red) goes for some big euros in Turkey tomorrow
David Livingston has arrived in Turkey to represent Mike de Kock’s stable in Sunday’s Gr2 International Bosphorus Cup to be contested over 2400m at Veliefendi Racecourse in Istanbul.
There is a nice stake on offer – the winning connections will share in the region of €180,000 (app R2,5-million) – making the trip from Newmarket for a crack at the prize well worthwhile.
Assistant trainer Steven Jell, who added the last touches to David Livingston preparation at Abington House earlier this week, told mikedekockracing.com: “David Livingston arrived in Turkey on Wednesday morning. He travelled well, settled down and had a light workout this morning (Thursday), which is all he will do before the race. He is fit and well.”
Johnny Murtagh, who rode David Livingston to victory in the Gr3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes over 2100m at Haydock last month, said after the race that his mount would be well suited to even more ground. He was happy to travel to Turkey to take the ride again.
Kavanagh, four lengths off the winner in his return to the racetrack at Newmarket two weeks ago, will face the starter in today’s Gr1 Betfred Sprint over 1200m at Haydock. He will be partnered by Patrick Cosgrave.
“Kavanagh is very capable on his day. That last run brought him on nicely and he looks a happy horse. He’s up against some good opposition but should run well,” Jell said.
