De Kock Gr1’s – The Facts

All at sea - but at least we got the right horse - a year later

This is the 100th Gr1 win- Alboran Sea wins the Allan Robertson Championship in 2014

This is the 100th Gr1 win- Alboran Sea wins the Allan Robertson Championship in 2014

After Saturday’s sensational Gr1 Cape Flying Championship victory by Mike De Kock’s Australian-bred Alboran Sea, and with the international racing world singing the champion’s praises on the milestone of 100 Gr1 winners, it seems we may all have missed the mark by a couple of winners and nine months late.

This statement issued by the Mike De Kock racing team will clarify the position:

‘A few weeks ago a stable follower pointed out that Mike de Kock had already passed his milestone of 100 Gr1 winners and that our website statistics incorrectly displayed a figure of 99. We audited the statistics with data supplied by the National Horseracing Authority (NHA) this week and found that it was indeed so, Mike notched his 100th Gr1 winner when the very Alboran Sea won the Gr1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship on 24 May 2014. With Majmu having won the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas since then, the official Gr1 tally is now 102. Thanks to both parties for correcting us.’
