John Freeman went to R1,1 million for a stakes winning half-sister to Winter Classic prospect Vardy at the total dispersal sale of the Moutonshoek Stud held at the scenic farm on Thursday afternoon.

The sales-topper, a mare very closely related to Captain Al sired champion Captain’s Lover, won four including the East Cape Oaks, and sold in foal to outstanding recently deceased sire Dynasty.
Eros’s Girl was trained by the Snaiths in a successful career on the track.
A Silvano colt (Lot 130) out of Listed Off To Stud Handicap winner Pecan Nut was the top weanling – and second top lot overall – and was knocked down to Moutonshoek’s Bennie van der Merwe for R425 000.
A pleasing aspect of Thursday’s auction was the number of international buyers who participated, while local breeders and trainers from across South Africa were also highly active at the emotional dispersal sale of one of the Cape’s biggest farms.
Moutonshoek’s Colin Gordon said : “There are some lots that reflect Moutonshoek as a buyer – please note that these are buys from Dr Bennie van der Merwe, who will continue to board a few mares and breed on his own, on his part of the farm. Chris Gerber’s share and his house will be sold off later.”
Stallions The United States (USA) and Marchfield (CAN) will remain on the farm until the shareholders have decided on their future. Admiral Kitten (USA, David Southey) and Mambo In Seattle (USA, Clifton Stud), will remain at their new homes.
