Var Filly Cracks Whip

Emphatic win for Stan Ferreira flyer

La Roquette, the top priced lot sold at the 2015 National Two Year Old Sale, impressed when running out a facile debut winner at the Vaal on Thursday.

Stanley Ferreira – trained the winner

Despite being very green, La Roquette responded quickly to jockey Marco Van Rensberg’s urgings and drew clear to post an emphatic three and a half length debut win over 1000m.

Trained by Stanley Ferreira, this three-year-old filly looks potentially exciting –and is yet another great advert for the National Two Year Old Sale –surely the best value for money thoroughbred auction held anywhere in Africa!

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, La Roquette was knocked down to Roland Bouwer for R1.1 million at last year’s National Two Year Old Sale.

She is a daughter of Avontuur’s hugely successful sire Var, sire of such champions as Variety Club, Via Africa and Val de Ra, and the blue blooded Western Winter mare Jodie.

La Roquette – as a youngster

The latter is a full sister to former Equus Champion, and G1 Gold Medallion hero, Ice Cube, as well as to G2 Green Point Stakes winner Jagged Ice.

The superbly bred La Roquette’s second dam is none other than former East Cape champion Annie –whose nine victories included the G3 Dion Derby and six other feature events.

The 2017 National Two Year Old Sale will take place at the TBA complex in Germiston on 16-18th August.
