July Runners Appeals Fail

Fees forfeited as July merit rating appeals fail

The National Horseracing Authority of SA reports that appeals were lodged by Mr. Derek Brugman on behalf of the connections of July runners WHITELINE FEVER and HILL FIFTY FOUR against the Merit Ratings implemented subsequent to the running of the Rising Sun Gold Challenge on 08 June 2013.

An independent panel consisting of Messrs A Costa, R Napier and M Wanklin was convened to hear these appeals on 03 July 2013 by teleconference.

The Appeal Panel unanimously agreed that the Handicappers’ line horse, POMODORO, was the appropriate horse to use in the rating of the Rising Sun Gold Challenge on 08 June 2013.

As a result, the Appeal Panel agreed that the Merit Ratings of both WHITELINE FEVER and HILL FIFTY FOUR were correct and therefore overruled the appeals.

The Panel was of the view that the appeals were unwarranted and therefore declared the fees forfeited.
