Maine Chance Farms’ leading sire Silvano, who topped the sires’ averages at last year’s National Yearling Sale, is once again strongly represented at this year’s sale.
Silvano – true champion
The champion son of Lomitas’ influence in 2016 will also be felt through his champion son Bold Silvano (currently one of South Africa’s leading first crop sires) who is also well represented at the 2016 NYS.
Between them, father and son account for no fewer than 28 yearlings, while Silvano is also broodmare sire of a further nine yearlings.
Thus the blood of the 2001 Gr1 Arlington Million winner courses through the pedigrees of no fewer than 37 of the yearlings which go on sale at the end of the month.
Silvano, sire of the most expensive yearling ever sold in South Africa, understandably also proved very popular at the 2015 National Yearling Sale, where his 28 yearlings grossed over R21.36 million, with his top yearling fetching R2.7 million.
Silvano’s son Vercingetorix wins in Dubai
The champ has a great track record at the National Yearling Sale, where Silvano champions Aslan, Bold Silvano, Kings Gambit and Vercingetorix all passed through the sales ring.
With a superb draft, which includes yearlings out of Grade One winners Ilha Da Vitoria and Royal Fantasy, not to mention siblings to graded stakes winners Ilha Bela, Negroamaro and Whistle Stop, it is quite possible that the next Silvano champion will on offer at the 2016 National Yearling Sale!
Bold Silvano – following in Dad’s footsteps
Bold Silvano, whose first runners this season include stylish debut winner Bold Rex, is yet another locally bred champion showing signs of promise at stud.
The Ascot Stud bred and based sire, himself a R300 000 buy from the 2008 National Sale, has nine yearlings on sale and they include a three parts sister to Gr3 winner St Tropez, a filly out of Cape Fillies Guineas runner up Silky Dancer, and a colt from the same family as R3 000 000 earner Captain America.’
