A fortuitous KZN Breeders Golf Day voucher led to the purchase of a quick filly at the KZN Yearling Sale who broke the ice on debut for Redoute’s Choice stallion Time Thief at Scottsville on Wednesday.

And this particular one will be remembered for a long time by a group of happy hacker golfers and their mates who were on hand in numbers to lead in the nicely named Yessiricanboogie after she had cruised in on her maiden 1000m debut at the KZN Capital City track to win by 7,10 lengths in a time of 57,55 secs.

The Nadeson Park based Time Thief, who was celebrating his first SA-bred winner, is a ¾ brother to SA Champion Sprinter Laisserfaire,
Time Thief stood his first season at stud in Australia in 2010 and relocated to South Africa in 2015.
An A$2 million yearling buy, Time Thief is one of five stakes horses produced by the Gr3 Tristarc Stakes winning Procrastinate, one of the best broodmares to have graced the Australian paddocks in recent years.
His top performer In Her Time, who scored a courageous win in the Gr1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington recently, is now a nine-time winner, with earnings of in excess of AUS$3 million to her name. The six-year-old had previously tasted Gr1 success when victorious in the 2018 Gr1 The PFD Food Services Galaxy and also has five Gr1 placings to her name.
Redoute’s Choice sire Time Thief
Time Thief is one of a growing number of Redoute’s Choice sire sons to enjoy Gr1 success.
Trainer Gareth van Zyl was always bullish about the chances of the good looking debutante who had run third in her barrier trial and started deep in the red. He remarked that he was aiming her at the KZN Yearling Sale Million on July day. While the quality of her opposition is largely untested, she really was impressive.
Jockey Warren Kennedy said that he only shook the winner up at the 400m but that the facile win was what was expected on her work back home.
Yessiricanboogie, a R110 000 purchase off the KZN Yearling Sale, is out of the Captain Al mare Gorgeous Al, who never won.
Besides the first cheque of R65 625, her happy owners also banked the BSA Value Added Maiden Winner Bonus of R50 000.
