Jockey Diego De Gouveia Suspended

Has the Right of Appeal against penalty imposed

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at its offices in Johannesburg on Friday, 30 September 2022, Jockey D De Gouveia was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1.1. read with 77.2.8.

The particulars being that a urine sample taken from him at Turffontein Racecourse on 28 July 2022, disclosed upon analysis the presence of Morphine (an Opiate) which is a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules.

Jockey De Gouveia pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.

In determining a suitable penalty, the Inquiry Board took into consideration that this was Jockey De Gouveia’s first offence with regards to this rule as well as other factors put forward in mitigation.  Jockey de Gouveia was suspended from riding in races for a period of fourteen days.

Jockey De Gouveia has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
