SA Jockey wins inaugural race in China

A news clip just received indicates that Gavin Lerena has won the first international race in mainland China, the Glenn Foundation Cup, with a value of RMB 500 000.

This is the inaugural racemeeting of the China Horse Club at Hohhot, Inner Mongolia and forms part of the 2013 China Equine Cultural Event which is being held from 8 to 21 September.

RMB 500 000 equates to approximately ZA R750 000. There are international races today and 4 local jockey races.

All horses are imported from Ireland or Australia.

Gavin’s winner is  by Giants Causeway .

The second international was won by Singaporean Joao Moreira  on a Montjeu colt. Gavin Lerena was second and  Kevin Shea finished third. The race was the France Galop Cup over 2400m worth R1,2m.
