Absent Van Niekerk Suspended

Has the right of appeal against finding and penalty

At an inquiry held in Port Elizabeth on Friday, 1 June 2018, Jockey G van Niekerk, in absentia, was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.

This arose in that as the rider of YOUNG HOPEFUL he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to BERRY CRUSH leaving the 400m mark in Race 4 at Fairview Racecourse on 2 March 2018.

The Board entered a plea of not guilty on Jockey G van Niekerk’s behalf.
The Board found Jockey G van Niekerk guilty as charged and having considered his record imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of ten days.

Jockey G van Niekerk has the right of appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed.

Jockey G van Niekerk was afforded every opportunity to attend this inquiry. As this matter was delayed to such an extent the Board convened to proceed in Jockey van Niekerk’s absence to finalise the proceedings in accordance with Rule 79.3.
