Van Niekerk Suspended

Has the Right of Appeal against the penalty

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Friday 17 November 2017, Jockey Grant van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.

This arose in that as the rider of JUST MY STYLE in Race 5 at Turffontein Racecourse on 4 November 2017, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to RIDING SHOTGUN when he shifted out at about the 150m.

Jockey van Niekerk pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board after considering the evidence, suspended Jockey van Niekerk from riding in races for a period of 14 (fourteen) days.

Jockey van Niekerk was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty.
