Trainer Jeff Freedman has been found guilty after a horse in his care was tested positive for a prohibited substance. 

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Inquiry was held in Durban on Wednesday, 5 February 2014.

Trainer Mr J E Freedman was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.4 in that he was the Trainer responsible for the horse WEST END who ran in and won the 4th race at Clairwood Racecourse on 12 November 2013, after which a urine specimen taken from this horse disclosed, upon analysis, the presence of Phenylbutazone and Oxyphenbutazone, which are prohibited substances in terms of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority.

Mr Freedman pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Mr Freedman guilty of the charge and imposed a penalty of a fine of R30 000,00.

Mr Freedman has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.

Furthermore in terms of Rule 72.3.2 WEST END is disqualified from this race and the stake monies are to be returned for re-distribution in terms of Rule 67.7.8.
