Marco van Rensburg – suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Johannesburg on 23 November 2016, Jockey Marco van Rensburg, the rider of DESERT SUNSET, was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.

This arose in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to MAGIC BET (Jockey S Randolph) near the 250m, during Race 7 run at the Greyville Racecourse on 28 October 2016.

Jockey van Rensburg pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Board, after viewing the patrol films of the race and considering all other factors presented in mitigation, ruled that Mr van Rensburg be suspended from riding in races for a period of seven days (7) days.

Jockey van Rensburg has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
