The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on 8 June 2016, Jockey R Danielson was charged with a contravention of Rules 77.1.1 and 77.2.1, in that he presented himself to ride at the Turffontein Racecourse on 29 May 2016 whilst having a banned substance, namely alcohol, with a concentration level of 0,059mg which is over the concentration threshold of 0,024mg per 100 millilitres in his breath.
Jockey Danielson pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.
The Board after hearing all the evidence and factors presented by Mr Danielson in mitigation and also taking into account his clean record in this regard, ruled that Mr Danielson be suspended from riding in races for a period of thirty (30) days, fifteen (15) days of which is wholly suspended for a period of twelve (12) months on condition that he is not found guilty under these rules during that period.
Mr Danielson has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
