Has right of appeal against penalty imposed

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Port Elizabeth on 6 July 2018, Jockey Robert Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 56.2.4.

This arose in that on 8 June 2018 Jockey Khathi took into and used a cellular telephone whilst inside the Jockey’s quarters.

Jockey Khathi pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty as charged.

The Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a fine of R10 000, of which R5 000 is wholly suspended for a period of 12 months, on condition that Jockey Khathi is not found guilty of a similar offence.

Jockey Khathi has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
