Crop Use – Moodley Suspended

Has right of appeal against penalty

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Kwa-Zulu Natal on Wednesday, 15 May 2019, Jockey Serino Moodley was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 read with Guidelines E and M of the Guidelines on the use of the crop.

The particulars being that Jockey Moodley contravened this Rule and these Guidelines when he struck his mount, RED HERRING more than 12 times and without giving it time to respond in Race 4 at the Scottsville Racecourse on 12 May 2019.

Jockey Moodley pleaded guilty to the charge and the Inquiry Board found him guilty as charged.

The Inquiry Board gave consideration to Jockey Moodley’s record of recent contraventions of Rule 58.10.2 and was of the opinion that an appropriate penalty was to suspend him from riding in races for a period of 7 days.

Jockey Moodley has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
