Gould Boots Home Greeff Feature Winner

Three winners for Luyola Mxothwa

A Silvano half-brother to Ridgemont Highlands stallion Potala Palace, the talented Streak Of Silver charged to a first win in the Eastern Cape when scoring in the R110 000 November Stakes at Fairview on Friday.

The 1400m poly feature attracted a field of only eight runners, with Vaughan Marshall’s capable raider Zeb fancied to go in on his first attempt on the Fairview all-weather.

But after Silver Blade and Story Of My Life had led the way, and Dawnbreaker had flickered briefly down the inside rail, it was the underrated Teaque Gould who produced the generously priced Streak Of Silver (6-1) down the middle.

The Silvano 6yo had earned at all of his three Fairview starts and stamped his authority to give trainer Alan Greeff one of three winners on the day. Two of the Greeff winners were ridden by Gould, with Greg Cheyne riding the other.

Racing in famous Beck brown and white silks, Streak Of Silver beat his late finishing stablemate Breakfast Club by 1,25 lengths in a time of 83,20 secs, with the fancied Zeb plodding into third.

Bred by Highlands, the well-bred winner registered his 6th success with 13 places from 30 starts for stakes of R466 025. Remarkably, he is yet to win at stakes level but looks a horse to follow.

He is by champion sire Silvano (Lomitas) out of the UK Gr3 placed Alzao mare Alignment – dam of Potala Palace (Singspiel).

Louis Mxothwa was the most successful jockey on the day with three winners – two of which were for trainer Sharon Kotzen. Muzi Yeni and Alan Greeff also enjoyed a double on the afternoon.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
