Major League Soccer Preview (9-10 June)

With the soccer world cup taking centre stage, giving most premier club leagues a bit of a break, Major League Soccer (MLS) keeps going strong. This is the 23rd season of the MLS – the top division of soccer in USA and Canada.

Toronto FC are the reigning champions, while Atlanta FC are top of the current overall standings after 14 rounds. This is Los Angeles’ first season in the MLS after joining as an expansion franchise.

The biggest signing of the season would have undoubtedly been none other than Zlatan Ibrahimovic! The big Swede follows a long line of superstars with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, David Villa, Thiery Henry Andre Pirlo and many more! Let’s cut ahead and take a look at this week’s fixtures and tips!

Saturday 9 June

Philadelphia Union 14/10 | Draw 49/20 | Toronto FC 33/20
Philadelphia have won their last three home games on the spin, scoring 10 goals in the process. Toronto FC are without a win on the road, suffering four defeats from five away trips. The home team should be backed.

New York City 21/20 | Draw 26/10 | Atlanta FC 43/20
New York City have won all six of their home matches, scoring 18 goals and conceding just twice. Atlanta FC are top of the Eastern Conference standings with the best away record in the league – four wins from six matches. This one is too tight to call but I’m expecting both teams to find the back of the net at 9/20.

Columbus Crew 12/10 | Draw 5/2 | NY Red Bulls 2/1
Columbus Crew are unbeaten in their last eight matches. New York Red Bulls have been involved in high-scoring affairs on the road with 15 goals from their last four away ties at average of 3.75 per game. Get on the Totals – Over 2.5 goals – market at 13/20.

Sunday 10 June

Vancouver Whitecaps 8/10 | 11/4 | Orlando City 28/10
Vancouver Whitecaps are undefeated in their last five matches, including a hard-fought 2-1 win away to Colorado Rapids last time out. Orlando City have been in terrible form with four straight defeats and that doesn’t look likely to improve here. Take the Whitecaps to come out on top.

FC Dallas 5/10 | Draw 32/10 | Montreal Impact 9/2
FC Dallas are unbeaten at home and have won their last three games in a row. Montreal Impact are third from bottom on the Eastern Conference table with seven losses from eight travels, scoring just six goals and conceding 19 times. Back FC Dallas for the win.

Chicago Fire 11/10 | Draw 51/20 | New England Revolution 2/1
Chicago Fire have won the last four meetings against New England Revolution, who have managed just one win from five travels. The home win is on the cards.

Houston Dynamo 5/10 | Draw 32/10 | Colorado Rapids 9/2
Houston Dynamo have lost back-to-back games but have won four of their six matches at home. Colorado Rapids are bottom of the Western Conference log, winless on the road, scoring just twice and conceding 11 goals. Take Houston Dynamo to claim maximum points.

Seattle Sounders 6/10 | Draw 26/10 | DC United 17/4
Seattle Sounders have lost three games on the trot without scoring and conceding four times. DC United are off the back of a hard-earned 1-1 draw away to LA Galaxy and are tipped to grind at a positive result here. Back the away team on the win/draw Double Chance at 23/20.

San Jose Earthquakes 29/20 | Draw 5/2 | Los Angeles FC 16/10
San Jose Earthquakes have managed just two wins from 13 matches and have lost six of their last eight games. Los Angeles FC haven’t been much better on the form guide but they should do enough to edge the win. The travelling team is tipped for the win.

Portland Timbers 13/10 | Draw 49/20 | Sporting Kansas City 18/10
Portland Timbers are unbeaten at home this term and have won six of their last seven matches, while Sporting Kansas City are undefeated in their last five games. An end-to-end game is likely, along with a goal-fest. Over 2.5 goals is tipped at 13/20.

LA Galaxy 13/20 | Draw 3/1 | Real Salt Lake 7/2
LA Galaxy have been inconsistent on home soil with three wins and four losses from seven matches. Real Salt Lake have been in top form with three consecutive wins and offer plenty of value at 7/2! Back the away team to get the victory.
