Peter Moody, the most feted trainer in Victoria when undefeated globe-trotting champion Black Caviar was at her zenith, has returned from a self-imposed wilderness on a winning note.
He told Racenet last Friday:
“I am just hoping the bloody horse wins because I need the prizemoney! I was going broke paying other blokes to do what I could do myself. Any winner is a good winner. I’d love to have a horse competitive at the top level again but I’m just happy to win races left, right and centre – I will try to put something back in pockets of owners and then hopefully they will reinvest in my business,” said the man who walked away from the industry in 2016 following a suspension imposed after being found guily of unintentional cobalt administration to a horse in his care.
Moody has continued to exist on the periphery of the industry as a media commentator and bloodstock agent.
His return as a trainer at Ballarat on Sunday came with the heavy burden of expectation, and the now Pakenham-based conditioner showed he has lost none of his touch, with his first runner, favourite Shephard, rounding his opposition up with minimum fuss to win with authority.
Moody’s return will be popular amongst many in the industry, and adds another cog to an exceptionally competitive line up of trainers in Victoria.
