Philanthropist Has Them Flying

Philanthropist HorseDrakenstein stallion Philanthropist boasts two prestigious nominees for championship titles at the 40th Annual Sovereign Awards, which honours the Canadian Champions of 2014.

A son of world leading sire Kris S, Philanthropist hails from the same Grey Flight female line responsible for former leading South African sire National Assembly.

A classic champion sire in Canada, Philanthropist stood his first season at Drakenstein Stud in 2012 and the good news will be of plenty of interest to the market on the eve of the Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where his first South African crop will be offered.

Philanthropist has 13 yearlings on the sale which gets under way on Thursday 22 January at the Cape Town Convention Centre.

The Jockey Club of Canada hosts the 40th Annual Sovereign Awards Party on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.

Champion Sprinter of last term Phil’s Dream – nominated again

Last season’s Sovereign  Awards champion Gr1 winning sprinter Phil’s Dream , who was also one of 4 nominees for Horse of the Year at those awards, finds himself amongst the nominees again for Champion Male Sprinter.

With Pender Harbour, Phil’s Dream is another Gr1 winning champion from Philanthropist’s small first crop.

The other Philanthropist nominee comes in the Champion 2yo colt category where Frost King Stakes winner Phil’s Cocktail looks a serious contender to lift the honours.

The multiple stakes winner is trained by John LeBlanc Jr. The bay is out of Sunset Cocktail and was bred by Ron Clarkson, who also races him.
