Going To Greece? Phumelela have made an interesting move

On 17 May the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund’s (HRADF) Board of Directors qualified 2PU, the consortium formed by PMU (Paris, France) and Phumelela Gaming and Leisure for the purpose of participating in the tender procedure for the granting of the exclusive right to organise and conduct mutual or tote betting on horse races in Greece for a period of 20 years.

PMU and Phumelela Gaming and Leisure are working on a project that will benefit the whole Greek horseracing industry and allow a sustainable and profitable growth of the horse race betting market.

PMU

PMU is the French reference for horseracing betting. As the European leader, the PMU has enjoyed a steady growth since 1997. PMU exports French racing to more than 40 countries. In 2010, following the opening of the French online gambling market, PMU branched out and extended its offer to online sports betting and online poker. PMU is a dynamic, modern multi-activity and multi-channel betting operator.

Phumelela Gaming and Leisure

Phumelela operates horseracing and tote betting in four of South Africa’s nine provinces and tote betting in another three. It also manages horseracing and tote betting in the Western Cape on behalf of Kenilworth Racing.

Phumelela operates or manages seven racecourses and seven training  centres, as well as retail, telephone and digital tote betting, and offers tote bets on horseracing as well as other sports, notably soccer and rugby.

It also owns Betting World, the largest corporate fixed-odds operator in South Africa.

Phumelela exports South African racing to 27 countries daily and hosts the global tote pools on the Dubai World Cup Carnival, which some 60 international hubs bet into.

Phumelela and Gold Circle (Pty) Limited, which operates horseracing and tote betting in KwaZulu-Natal, own a 50% share of Premier Gateway International (PGI), an international tote hub whose main business is to connect totes from around the world. TabCorp Limited (Australia) is the other shareholder.
