Gavin Van Zyl has another very smart sort on his hands in the unbeaten Australian bred Mohave Princess. The 2yo slammed her field in the R135 000 Listed Devon Air Stakes at Clairwood on Saturday in great style.

The win also marked a terrific winning weekend for Hassen Adams, who owns a share in the daughter of Mount Nelson.

Anthony Delpech took the Dubawi filly Magrooma up to lead from her wide draw and she showed the way all around until the 400m marker where she failed to hold the challenges.

Mohave Princess, who had been lurking just off them, moved up smartly and asserted her authority in the final stages to win going away

Mohave Princess started at 9 to 2 and won by 1,50 lengths. No time was published.

The Cape visitor Alascan Maiden showed an appreciation for the ground and stayed on for second ahead of Glorious Moment, while the De Kock runner Magrooma faded into fourth after showing pace.

Bred in Australia by Newsells Park Stud Limited, Mohave Princess is by Mount Nelson out of the four time winning Fusaichi Pegasus mare Our Mohave.

Mount Nelson’s daughter Purr Along was the joint highest rated two-year-old filly with a World Thoroughbred Ranking rating of 111.  Purr Along won the Prix du Calvados (Gr.3) in Deauville, and also finished second to the highest rated filly Certify in the May Hill Stakes (Gr.2) at Doncaster.

The dual Gr.1 winning son of Rock Of Gibraltar proved to be a leading first-crop sire with 3 Stakes horses and 13 individual two-year-old winners of 22 races.

Mohave Princess changed hands for R140 000 on the National Yearling Sale.

Mohave Princess is undefeated in two from two and took her earnings to R129 375.
