Great Debut! Majmu powers clear under Anthony Delpech after a slow start (JC Photos)
Mike De Kock’s Redoute’s Choice debutante Majmu overcame a disastrous start to register a courageous win in the R150 000 Listed Ruffian Stakes run over 1000m at Turffontein on Saturday. The impressive grey showed maturity and ability as she gradually made her way through her field to win going away from another Australian bred filly.
De Kock is never scared to step the bombs out first time in feature company and the dogs were barking early in the week about this smart looking daughter of Redoute’s Choice. She could not have been more impressive, after taking her time out of the gates.
Jockey Anthony Delpech showed his years of experience and obviously knew exactly what he had underneath him when he nursed her into the race and brought her through as if she was out on a Sunday evening stroll.
Backed into a 12 to 10 favourite, Majmu went away to beat the more experienced Flame Cat by 1,25 lengths in a time of 58,11 secs.
Majmu as a yearling
The maiden Silent Rush ran on for third a further 3,50 lengths away in third. The rest didn’t count.
Majmu was bred in Australia by Arrowfield Stud and sold by them at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $300,000 to Shadwell Stud.
She is the second foal of South American Group 1 winner Spontaneous.
Majmu races in the blue and white strip of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum.
She is, as we have observed already, a daughter of the outstanding Redoute’s Choice who can get them to run early.
In the last twelve months Redoute’s Choice has hit career milestones such as siring 100 stakes winners, reaching 24 individual Group One winners with two new classic winners, leading the sire averages at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and Magic Millions for the ninth consecutive year and covering an exceptional book of blueblood mares during his first season at the Aga Khan’s Haras de Bonneval in France.
