Randall’s Flying Start

Third ride a winner

SA jockey Randall Simons enjoyed a confidence boosting start to his new Mauritius contract when he won at just his third ride on Sunday.

Simons only rode his first work on Wednesday last week and demonstrated plenty of cheeky confidence as he booted Consul Of War home in the fifth race for his new employers, the Preetam Daby yard.

Simons, who rode two winners for the De Kock yard at Turffontein the previous weekend, went close in the final race of the day when the judge had to be called upon to split the top five runners.

His mount Never Fear was placed second – see photo finish below:

Simons was joined by another South African in Diego De Gouveia, who arrived to take up his contract with the Rameshwar Gujadhur yard on Friday.
