Ready To Run Cup – Champion Scratched

Hollywoodbets have War Of Athena as new favourite

In an awful blow for her connections, Stuart Pettigrew’s champion Var filly Anything Goes has been scratched from Saturday’s R900 000 Peermont Emperor’s Palace Ready To Run Cup at Turffontein.

The shock withdrawal has opened the door for the inclusion of the Mike de Kock owned and trained maiden, Mynage.

Unbeaten in five starts, the Equus Champion Anything Goes beat older rivals in the Joburg Spring Challenge last time and was expected to take a power of beating, despite her wide gate, on what would ironically have been her biggest paydate.

The first cheque for the BSA sales race is a healthy R450 000.

Hollywoodbets have priced up her arch-rival War Of Athena, who went down narrowly to Anything Goes in the Gr1 Thekweni Stakes, but won her prep run impressively, as the new 14-10 favourite.

Anything Goes was scratched by trainer Stuart Pettigrew at 09h58 on Thursday morning as she had apparently injured her wither in her stable.

We could not reach Pettigrew for further comment.

The champion’s regular rider Diego de Gouveia has already been snapped up by the De Kock team to partner the eight-times raced maiden Mynage, who is priced at 20-1.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
