Ridgemont Highlands’ multiple Gr1 winning international sire Canford Cliffs, who is the covering sire of two mares on the De Grendel Wines Mare & Mixed Sale on Thursday, produced another smart graded stakes winner when his top-class son Money Matters’ won the Gr3 Roma Cup over 1200m at Ascot Racecourse in Australia on Saturday.
Trainer Adam Durrant saddled the gelding who has now won an incredible 10 races from 20 starts from 1000m to 1600m. The versatile Money Matters was recording his fourth stakes success.

In a spectacular season finale, Money Matters launched a typically powerful run down the straight under Joseph Azzopardi and won the tussle down to the line to hold off the fast finishing Elite Street, with Dance Music a short margin away third.
Canford Cliffs has sired 367 winners from 594 runners and has produced 31 international stakes winners in both hemispheres.
As befits a horse of his stature Canford Cliffs covered well over 100 mares in his first South African season two years ago.
His highly anticipated first South African crop includes half-sisters to champion Russian Sage, Gr1 winner Divine Jury and the dual Gr2 Gold Bracelet queen Running Brave, as well as half-brothers to Gr2 winner My Sanctuary and Gr3 Track & Ball Oaks winner Seville Orange.

Amongst Ridgemont Highlands mares sent to Canford Cliffs are multiple champion Dancer’s Daughter (Act One) and Front And Centre (Dynasty) who won the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas and the Gr3 Diana Stakes and is a multiple Graded placed racing filly.
On Thursday, CTS will host the 2021 De Grendel Wines Mare & Mixed Sale, in partnership with Meerkat Online Auctions, at the De Grendel Wine Estate.
Two mares in foal to Canford Cliffs will be offered on the Ridgemont Highlands draft.
#25 is Double Black, a three- time winning Twice Over half-sister to Champagne Stakes winner Nastergal.
#38 is the almost snow white In Like Flynn, a National Assembly half-sister to the high-class Zimbabwean runner Lucky Sam. In Like Flynn is course record setting stakes winner and a Gr3 Prix du Cap runner up.
