Ridgemont’s Rafeef Ripper!

Fireworks from son of Redoute's Choice

Ridgemont Highlands first season Redoute’s Choice stallion Rafeef equalled the mark set by Vercingetorix at Nationals in 2018, when the hammer fell at R2,2 million at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale in Cape Town on Thursday, courtesy of a colt puchased by international bloodstock agent, Amanda Skiffington.

The word has been out about the smashing Rafeef progeny for some months already and the astute Ms Skiffington secured the handsome Ridgemont Highlands-bred colt (#145), who is out of a dual winning own sister to Australian Gr2 winning sire Von Costa De Hero, for Jersey-based international owner, Fiona Carmichael.

# 145 – Rafeef’s handsome son sold for R2,2 million

The Australian-bred Rafeef, popularly labelled ‘The Thunder From Down Under’ for his explosive burst of acceleration,  is a son of triple Australian champion sire Redoute’s Choice and SA Horse Of The Year National Colour.

His dam won 8 races from 1000m to1200m in SA, UAE & UK.

A winner of the Gr1 Computaform Sprint, Rafeef retired as a 4yo in 2017 after being crowned outstanding Highveld Horse Of The Season

Raced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum, the Mike de Kock trained galloper won a total of 6 races from 1000m to 1400m at 3 to 4, and achieved a highest official rating of 116.

Rafeef was purchased by Shadwell Australia for A$800 000 at the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

He stood for a first season fee of R50 000.
