'We are not beyond criticism'

“We respect every individual’s right to freedom of expression but it is disappointing and damaging for the reputation of the sport at large when inaccurate comments are made – and then out of context.  One thing I do respect is that the person had the courage to put their name to what they said,”he added, before confirming that the figure of R1 million was incorrect.

The comment was made on this editorial

“I feel that we should point out that first-class travel is rare on many international routes today. We sent three representatives to what we consider to be an important and strategic event for us. They did not travel first-class and the amount mentioned is incorrect. If our CEO chooses to travel business-class, then that should be his prerogative, given his senior position. I would also like to draw the reader’s attention to the fact that we rely heavily on our international partners and it is necessary to spend money sensibly and strategically,” he said.

Scott said that serious efforts were being made to communicate proactively and responsibly and said that the fact that the new CEO had travelled to the Vaal at 06h00 on Friday morning to personally inspect the track and consult with stakeholders and management was an indication that they were serious about delivering a better product.

“Let’s be constructive. We are not beyond criticism. But let’s get the facts correct.”
